Types Of Radiant Heated Floors

  • Radiant air floors – This type of radiant heating is seldom used as air hard to heat and you still need ducts to carry the air (bigger ducts compared to small tubing)
  • Hydronic radiant floors – The most popular type of radiant heating is hydronic. This method uses warm water or glycol fluids to efficiently heat the flooring. The fluids are stored in pex  pipes beneath or embedded in the flooring and provide the most cost-effective, best method of radiant floor heating.
  • Electric systems are typically supplemental, not meant to be the sole heat source for a room. The cables, which are often already attached to mats for ease of installation, are installed over the sub-floor in a bed of thin-set mortar. Ceramic or stone tile are popular finished floor choices.Because electric heat is expensive, electric radiant floors are typically limited to small areas, such as a bath or kitchen. Programmable thermostats with both air and floor temperature limits are recommended with such systems, to save on energy costs.
